Charlie Taylor Wall

May 18, 1930 – May 8, 2014

Charlie Taylor Wall, 83, of Raleigh passed away peacefully at his home and went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 8, 2014, after battling complications from an acute stroke.

Charlie was born in Wake County on May 18, 1930, the son of the late Minnie Pearson Wall and Early Gay Wall. He attended Millbrook School. On February 10, 1951, he married Alice Lockleair Wall and together they provided a loving Christian home for their children and granddaughter.

Charlie honorably served his country in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1988 with 30 years of service and the nickname “Charlie Mailman.” After retirement Charlie and Alice traveled the U.S. and Canada extensively.

Charlie always demonstrated a quiet integrity, a strong work ethic, a quick wit, and most of all a deep faith in Christ. He often expressed his faith and love of music through his ability to play the acoustic, electric, and steel guitars. Though his later years were spent in a wheelchair, he took that lemon and gracefully turned it into lemonade. Charlie exemplified the scripture, “Godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Mr. Wall is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice Lockleair Wall; daughter, Georgia Wall Biggie and husband, Guy, of Zebulon; son, Gary Michael Wall of Raleigh; granddaughter, Autumn Taylor Biggie of Zebulon and brother, Robert Lawson Wall and wife, Fay, of Clayton.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his sister, Lennie Wall Williams, and brothers, Ernest Graham Wall, Jack Tomlinson Wall, William Henry Wall and Vernon Floyd Wall.

A celebration of Charlie’s life was held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, May 12, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Brisson officiating. Burial was in the New Life Church Cemetery in Rolesville.
