Delores Cash Edge
Delores Cash Edge died suddenly on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center. She was 78. Born on March 24, 1938 in Wake Forest, Delores was raised in the area and began her own family and business there as well. While raising her three daughters, she managed her business, “Big Country Homes,” with her first husband, Charles “Tootsie” Cash, whom she was married to for 30 years until his death in 1987. Delores continued to run the business until she decided to move to Carolina Beach, a place she always loved and traveled to often with her family through the years.
While living in Carolina Beach, Delores met her second husband, Wayne Edge, whom she was married to for 17 years and continued to stay close with until her passing. She worked at New Hanover Medical Center in the labor and delivery unit as a nurse’s assistant. She always loved being around the new babies and it brought her so much joy.
Having a house so close to the beach, all of Delores’ seven grandchildren would take turns coming to visit for their spring breaks and summer vacations, making special memories with their “Nana” that they will treasure forever. (They’d usually return home a few pounds heavier, because Delores was a fantastic cook who loved to spoil her family with all of their favorite meals!)
As Delores’ family continued to grow, she decided to move closer to them and returned to Wake Forest and later Gibsonville. During that time, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Being the strong and determined woman that she was, cancer didn’t stand a chance. Throughout her cancer battle and the countless other trials and tribulations she was faced with in her life, Delores always kept the faith and continued to be a pillar of strength and support for her family. She always thought about others before herself and was so giving and generous to her friends and family.
After reconciling with Wayne, Delores decided to move to Supply and had been living there for three years. She worked at the Fort Fisher Recreational Center two times a week as an office administrator, which allowed her to be close to the beach yet again. She loved being able to meet military families on their vacations and plan some vacations for her own family as well.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2016, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Jeff Hight; brother, Bobby Hight; and sister, Louise Holmes, all from Wake Forest.
She is survived by a brother, Donnie Hight of Wake Forest; her children, Tammy Phillips and husband, Jim, of Gibsonville, Lisa Morris and husband, Paul, of Wilmington and Karla Slocum, of Raleigh; Delores had seven loving grandchildren whom she adored and was always ready to brag about, Bill Phillips (Jordan), Charles Phillips, Taryn Connelly (Scott), Jordan Phillips, Taylor Pierson (Bradley), Wesley Medlin, and Alex Slocum. She was also a very loving and proud great-grandmother to both Kendyll Amon and Leah Phillips. She also left behind by many friends and extended family who will all miss her dearly.
