Steven Joe Anderson
Wake Forest
Steven Joe Anderson passed away in his home in Wake Forest on Saturday October 1, 2016. Steve was born on September 24, 1951, in Anderson, Indiana. As a young boy, Steve excelled at sports, especially baseball and golf. In 1969, he graduated from Anderson High School before attending college at Indiana State University. In college, Steve played baseball, pledged the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and completed a bachelor’s degree in 1972.
In 2009, after over 30 years of dedicated service for Herff Jones in Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve retired from his position as director of benefits. Although Steve had a successful career, his commitment to his two sons, Blake and Drew, was undoubtedly his primary focus. He supported them in everything they did, always serving as their coach and biggest fan in their sports, school activities, and other interests.
Following the birth of his first grandchild in 2011, Steve and his mother, Lois, relocated to the Triangle area of North Carolina. Steve’s loyalty and love for his mom was ever apparent as he became her sole caregiver, always including her in everything the family did together. It was as a grandfather, “Papa,” as his five grandkids called him, that Steve’s light shone the brightest. The love and attention he gave his grandbabies was unparalleled. He poured his whole heart into their lives in such a way that each one felt cherished. Papa’s strong foundation of love will keep their hearts rooted and grounded for the rest of their lives.
Steve loved attending church at Richland Creek with his girlfriend, Susan. He and Susan’s relationship blossomed in two short years as they spent almost every day together, caring for family, taking weekend trips, and simply enjoying life with one another. Ultimately, Steve was a man who had a servant heart, deeply loved his friends and family, and always had a kind word for others.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Paul C. Anderson. He is survived by his mother, Lois L. McNeese; his son, Blake Anderson, Blake’s wife, Hope, and their two children, Miles and Eden Rose; his son, Drew Anderson, Drew’s wife, Jenny, and their three children, Ellie, Ben, and Lainey.
