Dr. Albert Lunney Meiburg

Dr. Albert Lunney Meiburg of Raleigh, formerly of Wake Forest, died on Saturday, July 23, 2016, in the Health Center of Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh after a short illness.
He was born on September 3, 1925, in Seneca, South Carolina, oldest son of Albert and Gladys Burley Meiburg. His family he moved to Clemson when he was a young child and it was there he attended elementary and high school, graduating from Calhoun-Clemson School in 1941. He enrolled in Clemson College (now University), but volunteered during World War II and served in the United States Navy in the Pacific. After the war he completed his bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Clemson and then earned the bachelor of divinity and doctor of theology degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he studied under Dr. Wayne Oates. During this time he met and married Virginia McDougald, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love as well as a relationship he described as “best friends” for over 59 years.
Dr. Meiburg served Baptist institutions in a number of capacities, including professor and academic dean at Wingate University, associate director of the Department of Pastoral Care at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Professor of Pastoral Theology at Crozier Theological Seminary, Colgate Rochester Divinity School and Southeastern Seminary, where he also served as Dean of the Faculty from 1975 to 1981.
After retiring from Southeastern in 1992, he continued to teach, first at the Gardner-Webb University School of Divinity and then as Senior Professor of Pastoral Care at the Campbell University Divinity School, where he won the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree in 2007. Dr. Meiburg also served as a Visiting Scholar at Union Theological Seminary and at Regents Park College, University of Oxford, and in Hong Kong. In all of these endeavors he was a much beloved professor and friend to generations of college seminary students.
Dr. Meiburg was the author of numerous scholarly articles and several books including Spiritual Therapy (with Richard K. Young), Sound Body, Sound Mind and Called to Minister. He and Virginia were instrumental in establishing the first support group in Raleigh and Wake County for families of patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Meiburg is survived by three children, Albert Stanley Meiburg (Julie) of Washington, D.C., Katherine Meiburg Whatley (Jac) of Washington, D.C. and David McDougald Meiburg (Diane) of Cary; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 3:30 Thursday afternoon, July 28, 2016, at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Wake Forest. Burial will follow the visitation at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Cemetery. A memorial service will be announced in the near future.

James Eric Wilson
Knightdale
James Eric Wilson, 43, of Knightdale died Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Duke Raleigh Hospital. He was born in Mercer County, West Virginia, the son of Elbert Phillip “E.P.” Wilson and Geraldine Shrewsbury Wilson.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 25, 2016, in the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Princeton, West Virginia. Burial followed in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
James is survived by his parents, E.P. and Geraldine Wilson of Raleigh; a brother, Philip Wilson and wife, Kim, of Raleigh; sisters, Beverly Moretto and husband, Skip, of Bluefield, West Virginia, Lisa Alford of Fuquay-Varina and Sandra Chambers and husband, Leslie, of Knightdale; eight nieces and three nephews; four great-nieces, two great-nephews and one great-great-niece.

Newman I. “Bill” Bailey
Wake Forest
Newman I. “Bill” Bailey, 81, of Wake Forest went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2016. Bill was born in Wake County, the son of the late Ruben T. and Elva Powell Bailey. Bill was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church and was retired as a bridge engineer with the State of North Carolina.
Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2016, at Woodland Baptist Church with the Rev. Tito Madrazo and the Rev. Christopher Walker officiating. Entombment was in the Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Bill is survived by his wife, Suzanne W. Bailey; a son, Newman A. “Tony” Bailey and wife, Kandi, of Wake Forest; grandson, Ruben Bailey of Wake Forest; sister, Ruth Martin (Jerry) of Raleigh; brothers, Ruben T. “Buck” Bailey and wife, Earline, of Wake Forest, and Joel S. Bailey and wife, Lisa, of Wake Forest; step-children, Suzi ( Greg), Faye (Roy), and Billy (Bete); and step-grandchildren, Sarah, Davis, Sabrina and William. Is addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Daphene Page and Mary Smith, and by his first wife, Carolyn Looper Bailey.
