Matthew Selden Wallace

Raleigh

Mathew Selden Wallace, born August 13, 1969, 46 years old of Raleigh, was carried home by our Heavenly Father surrounded by his loving family July 2, 2016. Matthew was born in Beckley, West Virginia, to George Selden Wallace III and Nancy Dillon Burns. He grew up in Huntington, West Virginia, with his brothers George Selden (Brud), Ryan and stepbrother Patrick. Matthew graduated from West Virginia University.  Shortly after, Matthew moved to Raleigh to begin his 25-year career as a financial advisor, first with Merrill Lynch and ending his career with his solid team, Wallace Regner with Morgan Stanley.

In the beginning of his career, Matthew met the love of his life, Lori.   They were married 19 years and have two amazing daughters, Emily-Kate (Kate) and Ryannbrooke (Brooke).  He adored his family and was the most present father and husband, showering all three of his girls with unconditional love.

Matthew served his community by coaching his daughter’s basketball team at North Raleigh Christian Academy and coaching their junior varsity softball team with his brother Brud, winning back to back championships.  He was passionate about The Continuous Blessings Foundation and Holt Brother’s Foundation. It was not uncommon for Matthew to give to anyone down on his or her luck or a child in need. His big- hearted nature was an enormously fine quality of who he was. Matthew was a member of Bay Leaf Baptist Church and always kept God as his center and instilled this faith into his girls. He loved to travel with his family, especially to their home on Emerald Isle. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed listening to country music. Matthew had the ability to make anyone laugh effortlessly. He was the nucleus of his family and team at Morgan Stanley. He was taken from this world too soon.

Matthew is admired by his family and will be sorely missed by his wife, Lori; daughters, Kate and Brooke; brother, Brud and sister-in-law Rita; step-brother, Patrick and sister-in-law Jyll; mother, Nancy Burns and step-father, Rowland; father, George and step-mother Pat; step-grandmother, Toni Breihan; his niece, Scotti Lane and nephew, Jackson; close aunts, uncles, loving cousins and special friends. He is preceded in death by his brother Ryan.

A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, July 7, 2016, at Bay Leaf Baptist Church followed by a reception at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Continuous Blessings Foundation, 8901 Strickland Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.

William Clyde Bryson

October 13, 1939 – June 29, 2016

Raleigh

William Clyde “Bill” Bryson Jr. of Raleigh ended his earthly journey on June 29, 2016, after a life filled with a rewarding career, meaningful service to his community, and fulfilling relationships with his soulmate Phyllis, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As a child growing up in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, he was called “Muscles” because of his eagerness to take on ambitious tasks in spite of his small stature. Bill met his sweetheart, Phyllis, in high school and they wed after Officer Candidate School in 1962.  They began their life together in Hawaii as Bill started his career in the Navy.

Bill and Phyllis provided a loving and nurturing home in Fairfax, Virginia, for their four children: Joyce, Diane, Billy and Jennifer. Bill often told others that he wanted to spend money making memories rather than buying things. He made these memories with many family adventures, early morning bike rides, project cars, a two-story tree house, heart-shaped pizzas, and backyard ice rinks.  He fostered an environment that encouraged dreaming and aspiring to do great things.

Bill believed in leaving a place better than you found it, and he served others by coaching his kids’ sports teams, helping neighbors, and serving on HOA boards and as president of the community’s swim club. Bill saw the best in everyone and had an unwavering trust in God’s perfect plan. His kind and humble spirit inspired those around him.

Bill was director of the Naval Telecommunication Automation Center and implemented the first automatic fleet telecommunications system, which changed communications worldwide. He oversaw the development of the White House communication system and later received an award for his innovative program to back up naval satellite communications.

Upon retirement to Raleigh, Bill was active with the Gideons, shared the Gospel at the Wake County jail, and developed the Volunteer Support System used by Republican parties across the State of North Carolina. Bill did everything in his power to encourage everyone to vote.

Bill will be remembered with affection and admiration by his loving wife, Phyllis; his children, Joyce McPherson (Garth), Diane Wallace (Steve), Bill Bryson III (Lara) and Jennifer Robinson (Paul); his 18 grandchildren: Heather McPherson Carter, Alexie, Duncan, Andrew, David, Grace, Connor, Luke and Emily McPherson; Ashley and Kaitlin Wallace; Clyde, Royce and Andrew Bryson; and Kathryn, Anna, Bryce and Meredith Robinson; and his great-grandchildren: Zeddy and Cyrus Carter.

Bay Leaf Baptist Church will host visitation Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 7 to 9 p.m. and a memorial service Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10 a.m.  Arrangements are entrusted to Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International Raleigh North Camp; P.O. Box 99557; Raleigh, NC 27624.
