L.F. Perry

Wake Forest

L.F. Perry, 90, of Wake Forest went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 27, 2016. L.F. was born December 20, 1925, the son of the late Labon and Lela Ray Perry. He was a member of Stony Hill Baptist Church and he worked at Weavexx Corp. for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Davis Perry; five brothers, Leamon, Novid, Ovid, Vester and Gartha Lee Perry; and by two sisters, Novie P. Bailey and Vera P. Ray.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, June 30, 2016, at Stony Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

L.F. is survived by his brother, Novlen Perry of Wake Forest, and by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in L.F.’s memory to the building fund at Stony Hill Baptist Church, 7521 Stony Hill Rd., Wake Forest 27587 or to Transitions Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh 27607.

Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the church.

Lisa Lynn Moody

Rolesville

Lisa Lynn Moody, 48, of Rolesville died Saturday, June 25, 2016, following a long illness. Lisa was born November 18, 1967, in Lynwood, California, the daughter of the late Oscar Lee Moody and Wannell Silvers Martin. She was a graduate of N.C. State University and was a teacher for many years at East Garner Middle School. Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Lee Moody.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, June 30, 2016 in The Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Wannell Martin of Goldsboro; a brother, Gilbert Lee Moody and wife, Mendy, of Rolesville; and nieces, Amber McMichen and husband, Nick, of Greenville, Bobbie Moody of Raleigh and Stephanie Moody of Raleigh.

Memorial contributions may be made to East Garner Middle School or to Transitions Life Center.

 Oscar David Pearce

Youngsville

Oscar David Pearce, 69, of Youngsville died Friday, June 24, 2016. He was born January 11, 1947, in Wake County, the son of the late Oscar Stephen Pearce and Lucille Hicks Pearce.  David was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Wake Forest and was an inspector at Burlington Mills for over 20 years.

Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, June 27, 2016, in The Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Salyer officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

David is survived by a sister, Linda P. Perry and husband, Linwood, of Raleigh; a brother, Larry Pearce and wife, Deborah, of Youngsville; two nieces, Marci Ginn and husband, Josh, of Wisconsin, and Amy Sheets and husband, David, of Youngsville; three great-nieces; and a great-nephew.

 Bonnie W. Pennell

Raleigh

Bonnie White Pennell, 77, of Raleigh died peacefully at home on June 24, 2016. She was born June 23, 1939, in Max Meadows, Virginia, daughter of the late Howard and Ruby Marshall White. As a childcare provider, Bonnie spent her life nurturing and loving children. Many families were touched by her sweet spirit and kind heart.

Funeral services were held at 12 o’clock Wednesday, June 29, 2016, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Jefferson officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Jerry Wayne Pennell Jr. of Rock Hill, South Carolina; granddaughters, Kaitlyn Pennell Lee (Brandon) of Fayetteville, Sydney and Isabella Pennell of Rock Hill; sisters, Betty Blansett, of Winston Salem and Joyce Lawson (Charlie) of Barren Springs, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her constant companion and caregiver, Erin Hansen, who selflessly took care of Bonnie with love and devotion for seven years; friend Jill Balogh, who visited and loved Bonnie as if she were family; and many other friends and family who mourn the loss of a wonderful woman but are filled with joy that she is now with her Lord and Savior.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Pennell Sr.; sisters, Mamie White and Alma White Davis; and her brothers, Earl White, Roy White and Leonard White; niece, Brenda Davis McCarty; and nephew, Don Lawson.

Mary Jane Root

Raleigh

Mary Jane Root, 64, of Raleigh died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at home. She was born July 14, 1951, in Bordentown, New Jersey, to the late Anne Elizabeth Strunge Walls and the late Joseph John Walls. Mary Jane graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

She was a devoted member of North Raleigh United Methodist Church and had served as a Stephen Minister. Mary Jane was also a Red Stole Collegian of the Loyal Order of the Moose Chapter 1058. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Walls.

Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, July 2, 2016, at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Road in Raleigh, Rev. Mark Tolley officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.

Mary Jane is survived by: her husband of 31 years, Jerry W. Root of Raleigh; children, Rev. Jenifer A. Swindell and husband, Mark of Apex, Michael A. Root of Etters, Pennsylvania, and Dawn E. Root of Glen Burnie, Maryland; grandchildren, Lexi, Vance and Toby; brothers, Patrick Walls and wife, Julie, of Booneville, Arkansas, and Joseph Walls and wife, Marg, of Crawford, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Jane’s memory may be made to a college savings account for her grandson, Joshua Tobias Swindell, at the NC State Employees Credit Union.

 Rebecca Ann Horsley

Wake Forest

Rebecca Ann (Cence) Horsley, 45, of Wake Forest went home to be with the Lord on June 23, 2016. A beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, and aunt, Becky was born in Santa Clara County, California, on January 17, 1971. She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1989 and earned a degree in communications from Sacramento State University. For several years after college, she was employed in the insurance industry before relocating to Raleigh.

While in Raleigh, she went on to earn her teaching certificate at Meredith College and later entered East Carolina University’s master’s degree program. She found her true calling as a kindergarten teacher in the Wake County School System.  She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and was very active in the ‘God Squad.’  Her family was her life and love, just as she was their love. Becky’s joy, humor, thoughtfulness, and love of life will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, June 29, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Lew Upchurch officiating.

Becky is survived by her husband of 12 years, Charles Jeffrey Horsley; sons, Nicholas Paul Horsley and Charles Benjamin Horsley; father, James Duane Cence; brother, Richard David Cence and wife, Laura; sister, Sara Ann Fisk and husband, Spencer; and nieces, Madeline Fisk, and Claire Fisk.

Memorial donations may be made to “Hope Lutheran Church for the Benefit of the Rebecca A. Horsley Scholarship Fund”.

 Lyndell Fowler Scarboro Pleasants

Wake Forest

Lyndell Fowler Scarboro Pleasants, 88, of Wake Forest went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 24, 2016. Lyndell was born October 19, 1927, the daughter of the late Fleming Fowler and Lennie Dean Fowler. She was a life time resident of her beloved Wake Forest, living on the same property since she was 4 years old. Lyndell was the church secretary at Glen Royal Baptist Church in Wake Forest for many years and also worked for 32 years at Marshall Oil Company in Wake Forest. She loved and was devoted to her family, her gardening and birds.

Graveside services were held at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, June 28, 2016 at Wake Forest Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Faile and the Rev. M. L. Walters officiating.

Lyndell is survived by her husband, Charlie L. Pleasants of Wake Forest; a daughter, Beth Creech and husband, Dwayne, of Raleigh; a son, Vernon “Tink” Scarboro Jr. of Wake Forest; daughter-in-law, Donna O. Scarboro of Wake Forest; and granddaughter, Brittany Scarboro of Wilmington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon G. Scarboro, Sr.
