Charles Gerald (Jerry) McLaughlin
Youngsville
Charles Gerald (Jerry) McLaughlin, 76, went from his home in Youngsville, to be with his Lord and Savior on January 31, 2016. He was born in Miami, Florida, to Charles Vincent and Margie Kathleen (Seegers) McLaughlin on March 19, 1939.
Jerry, known to his high school friends in Edenton as “Sharky,” served in the United States Air Force during the Cuban missile crisis after high school. He had several careers, working at times as a credit manager for a finance company and a department store, a bulk mail provider for members of Congress in Washington, a package courier for a national delivery company, and a bank building superintendent. Flying airplanes was a special passion of his, having earned his private pilot’s license while in his 50s, and he ended his working career at a small county airport in Maryland helping pilots land planes and scheduling flying lessons. He and his wife retired to Franklin County, where he became a member of Louisburg United Methodist Church.
Jerry was a gentleman and a gentle man of pleasant demeanor, who loved to tease, had a good sense of humor and a hearty laugh. He prided himself on his home and his garden and loved his neighbors.
But his true legacy is his family, all of whom he dearly loved and who love him. He is survived by his sister, Judi (Clinton) Davis of Titusville, Florida; his wife of 47 years, Linda (Voorhees) McLaughlin; their three daughters, Michelle (Brian) Clopper of Wake Forest, Karen (Don) Wimmer of Wake Forest and Jo’Ann (Chris) Hays of Youngsville; their seven grandchildren, Amy and Ethan Clopper, Ryan, Megan and Evan Wimmer, and Dakota and Kamdyn Hays; through his marriage six sisters-in-law, their husbands, and one brother-in-law; and a ton of nieces and nephews — all of whom were very special to him.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, February 3, 2016, at Louisburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Saffley and the Rev. Earl Dulaney officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
