Nominate an outstanding volunteer

Volunteers play a vital role in making things happen and getting things done in Wake Forest. The Wake Forest Community Council will recognize and honor the volunteer service of both individuals and organizations in the community during the annual Wake Forest Christmas Dinner on Dec. 4.

Nominations are now open and must be submitted online by the deadline of Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, 12 noon. Anyone can nominate a Wake Forest-based organizationand/or a person who volunteers in Wake Forest–a Wake Forest address is not required but their volunteer service must be in Wake Forest. There is no cost to nominate someone.

There are three award categories:

  1. Citizen of the Year award given to an individual or team demonstrating exemplary volunteer effort.
  1. Organization of the Year award to a group that has contributed significantly to life in Wake Forest.
  1. The Peggy Allen Lifetime Achievement Award given to an individual or team who has contributed at least 10 years of volunteer service to the Wake Forest community. It was first presented to Peggy Garren Allen for her lifetime of service to the Wake Forest Community and is named in her memory. Peggy and her husband Bob were long-time owners/publishers of The Wake Weekly newspaper. Peggy died in 2005 and Bob in 2020.

The awards will be presented during the annual Wake Forest Community Christmas Dinner held on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, 6:30 p.m. at The Forks Cafeteria, 339 Brooks Street in Wake Forest. Tickets for the dinner are now on sale at The Forks for $25 each.

The Council is comprised of area civic, service, social, fraternal, religious and business organizations, as well as interested individuals and is dedicated to the communication of programs, events, and the needs of the community. The Council’s mission is to better promote, improve and preserve the Wake Forest lifestyle.

“We are an inclusive Community Council and welcome any organization or individual who would like to participate in our regular meetings. We’ve kept our annual dues low at just $25/year to cover the awards we present and our postal box,” explained Angela Bendorf Jamison, chair of the Wake Forest Community Council.
