The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the 2024 Meet in the Street. The 42nd anniversary of Meet in the Street, presented by Allison Caudle with Southern Lux Living and coordinated by the Wake Forest Area Chamber, will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm in downtown Wake Forest.  This premier arts & crafts, music and food festival will include more than 100 artisan booths featuring handmade items for sale, dozens of food trucks, live music throughout the day on two different stages, a children’s village filled with activities for kids, and more. Monthly Inspections Report: February

The Wake Forest Inspections Department issues a monthly report about all new building permits and new businesses. In February there were 57 permits issued for new single-family dwellings, 36 permits for townhouses and 26 permits for multi-family dwellings. There were no new commercial buildings approved . There were no fit-ups approved. The Growth Rate

Based on the February 2024 Monthly Development Report, WF Planning Updated April 10, 2024 The updated Wake Forest population as of July 1, 2023 was 56,681. That figure included the new homes which were approved for occupancy. When all the current approved apartments, townhouses and single-family homes are built the population will rise to 69,956. The town keeps a running tally of approved projects with counts of those completed. The best inspections current estimate is that between seven and eight people move to town each day, moving into newly-built houses, townhouses or apartments and a few existing houses that were for sale. Magic Pipers begin FNOW 2024 on April 12

The Magic Pipers will kick off the 2024 Friday Night on White concert series on Friday, April 12. The free outdoor concert will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. along South White Street in historic downtown Wake Forest. Food & Refreshments Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at several downtown restaurants. A variety of food and dessert trucks will also be on site in the Depot Parking Lot, 110 S. White St., and along East Owen Avenue. Wells and privies, malaria and typhoid

100 years of history By Carol W. Pelosi In 1909, water came from wells and toilets were privies or outhouses in the back yard. Some very few people, usually prosperous farmers with a stream, had installed pumps or gravity pipes to bring water inside for the kitchen and bathroom. Because wells had to be dug by hand and could miss the underground streams, some people did not have their own wells but relied on those dug and maintained by the town. In the summer of 1910, the town board told Commissioner F.W. Dickson to put the well at the corner of White Street and Jones Avenue into good order. There was a second well on South White Street but its exact location is unknown. 44th Trentini Dinner April 18 at RenCen

The 44th annual Trentini Dinner will be held in the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre Thursday, April 18, and will celebrate seven Wake Forest High School students who are examples of the qualities Coach Anthony Trentini instilled and expected from his students and players. The $20 tickets are available by going to www.trentinifoundation.org or mailing a request to Trentini Foundation, PO Box 806, Wake Forest, NC 27587. Please also enclose a deductable donation.Those donations are crucial to the Trentini Foundation’s success and its ability to provide scholarships to our graduating seniors. At the first dinner in 1981, the selected student received a $500 scholarship; now the winner receives a $30,000 scholarship and the other finalists receive $1,000 each. Another student receives a $1,000 scholarship to a community college. ###

Age & Dementia series begins April 13

The Northern Wake Senior Center and the Wake Forest Senior Information Networking Group (SING) are partnering to host a series of free classes, workshops, and other events over the next several months to raise awareness about aging, Alzheimer’s, and related dementias. Each event in the 2024 Age & Dementia Education Series will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about dozens of aging and dementia-related programs, services, products, and resources – all at the Northern Wake Senior Center, 235 E. Holding Ave. These free events are scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and no registration is required. Senior Center hosts ‘Fear of Falling’ April 15

The Town of Wake Forest and the Northern Wake Senior Center will partner to host a “Fear of Falling” workshop on Monday, April 15, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. The session may be viewed online or in person at the NWCS, 235 E. Holding Ave. To register or receive the streaming link, call 919-554-4111. Over one in four Americans over the age of 65 fall each year. The April 15 workshop will offer facts, statistics, and information about the risks associated with falling. Get in shape during May Month of Fitness

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department will offer a free outdoor fitness series five nights a week in May at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. Free and open to area residents of all ages, May Month of Fitness will consist of the following weekly classes: All classes are free and require no registration. Each will be offered on its respective night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Joyner Park Amphitheater. During the Women’s Self Defense classes, instructors from Quest Martial Arts will teach participating women a variety of techniques to avoid danger and defend themselves if necessary.
