How about “a kid was hanging off the roof behind one of the businesses around Domino’s,” as Town Manager Kip Padgett put it in an email about his meeting this week with members of the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce. There definitely was a fight in the parking lot at Lumpy’s Ice Cream on Roosevelt Avenue, and the manager there said the teens come in the store and are loud and obnoxious. During the fight, she or the owner called the Wake Forest Police Department – a couple blocks away – and officers arrived 30 minutes later after the group of teens left. Wake Forest Comic-Con happening at RenCen Saturday, Aug. 19

Wake Forest, a burgeoning community of 50,000, hosts its own Comic-Con Saturday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. And unlike the arm and the leg generally needed, this event costs just $5, and is free for kids under 12. Held at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, the sixth Wake Forest Comic-Con is co-hosted by Play4Life Comics and the nonprofit Wake Forest Downtown Inc. Michelle Michael wins planning’s highest honor

Wake Forest Senior Planner for Historic Preservation Michelle Michael has been named the 2023 winner of the Robert E. Stipe Professional Award. Presented annually by Preservation North Carolina, the honor is the highest award presented to North Carolina professionals who demonstrate outstanding commitment to historic preservation above and beyond their job responsibilities. Established in 1983 to honor the contributions of Robert E. Stipe, an educator in the field of historic preservation and a mentor to a generation of preservation professionals, the award will be presented to Michael during Preservation North Carolina’s annual conference in Durham on October 4. Michael graduated with a Master of Historic Preservation from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Arts from Meredith College. WF wins Excellence in Financial Reporting for 33rd year

For the 33rd straight year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Town of Wake Forest for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. This year’s award is for the period ended June 30, 2022. To view the 2022 report, visit wakeforestnc.gov and search “Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.” The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 21,000 government finance professionals. Its Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by the Town and its management.
