As part of the S-Line Project, the NC Department of Transportation is studying design options for mobility hubs in several communities, including Wake Forest.
A mobility hub is a place of connectivity with regional and local multimodal transportation options, providing integrated facilities, amenities, technologies, and services. These hubs offer choices to get users where they need to go, making it easier to transfer from one form of travel, such as walking or biking, to another, such as carpooling or using a bus or shuttle.
A Mobility Hub, including an Amtrak station, is proposed for downtown Wake Forest on the site of the former historic freight and passenger rail depot. Details such as space needs, site design, environmental impacts, and accessibility will be analyzed as part of the study.
Residents are invited to join NCDOT’s project team to discuss plans for the Wake Forest Mobility Hub during a drop-in open house on Wednesday, June 12, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St.
The June 12 open house will have an informal, open house-style format, so attendees may drop in anytime between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. to discuss the Town’s mobility needs, the preferred site for the mobility hub, economic development opportunities, and share their vision and concerns related to the mobility hub.

I love the idea of a train depot in WF and really find the one in downtown Raleigh quite lovely. It makes me nervous to consider Roger’s Road, which is already so backed up with traffic all hours of the day. I am inclined to recommend placing the depot in a spot in which tracks already exist, perhaps off Ligon Mill Road where all the new construction is taking place? Might there be space downtown? Glorious idea and I’m here for it.
Can we please exclude Fred Smith from bidding on any work needed for this project or the Rogers Road project? They have been working on 401 for 12 years & it’s still not completed. It took them like 4 years to finish Stadium Drive. Rolesville gave them the S. Main project. It takes 15 minutes to go .3 of a mile some days. I love my Fred Smith friends but the roadwork crews have killed my patience. I would like to live long enough to see my grandkids enjoy the train.
I posted about putting the station at Rogers Road but failed to address the obvious. Go ahead and build a small, architecturally correct station downtown. Lay down a narrow gage rail, parallel to the existing track, and run the “Wake Forest Special” between the Rogers Road Terminal and downtown. Make it special
As much as I love the idea of the new station downtown Wake Forest, it makes no sense. Where are those that want to park and board the train going to park?
Build an attractive, large terminal at Rogers Road and provide parking. Wake Forest will become a major day trip station with locals moving around the triangle via train. Think about it
We will be expected to utilize the micro-transit option to get there.
