Music mixes with art Friday night

It is called Art After Hours, but in Wake Forest’s downtown that means a lot of music is mixed in, enlivening a fun evening spent studio and shop hopping.

Next Consignment Boutique operated by Pam Jay is the showcase for new local talent. Jay describes her latest find: “Kristi Dixon is 18 and just finished high school with a talent way beyond her age. She has been performing acoustic shows for four years and debuting her first album at 13. You can hear it by googling Kristi Dixon Emotions. She has performed at fund raisers, festivals, coffee houses, amusement centers, farmer’s markets, and at events in downtown Wake Forest. She gives a voice driven acoustic performance with contemporary covers and original songs mixed in. Her repertoire includes songs from Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Kelly Pickler, Miley Cyrus, Martina McBride and Kelly Clarkson. Please join us for Kristi’s performance and light refreshments.”

There were no announcements from local shops and studios this week to the Gazette – the owners and artists were probably exhausted after last weekend’s Artist Tour of Studios.

But there will be featured artists and the shops and studios will be open. Wend your way up or down South White Street, beginning or ending with The Cotton Company and moving on to Next Consignment Boutique, Storyteller’s Book Store, NC General Stores, The Artists’ Loft over The Wake Forest Coffee Company, Sunflower Studio just a step down East Jones Avenue, back up to White Street for Wake Forest Art & Frame and then to Mimosa and Mary Benejam’s Artist Nook.

As you stroll, be sure to stop in at the White Street Brewery to sample one of the distinctive craft beers.

Feed the inner man and woman too by having dinner at one of the downtown restaurants including Las Margarita’s, La Foresta, Backfins Crabhouse, the Olde English Tea Room, or Over the Falls.

Stacy at The Lemon Tree is offering a special four-course meal that includes orange honey glazed pork tenderloin or red curry chicken thighs. It would be wise to reserve a table: 919-521-5806 or stacy@thelemontreewf.com.

If the weather holds there will be free horse and carriage rides provided by Wake Forest Downtown.

Come down and enjoy!
