Meet the candidates, chamber says

Ever complain that you have never seen a candidate for this office or that office in person?

Do not complain about that this year for the local candidates. They will all be on view and speaking during the meet and greet event the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce will hold Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street.

It is a free event open to all because it replaces the candidate forum the chamber usually sponsors. There will be a dinner – tickets are$20. More on the dinner when the chamber clarifies how that will work.

Now to the candidates. The list is headed by the candidates for U.S. House of Representatives District 13, incumbent Republican George Holding and Democrat Brenda Alexander.

Immediately afterward there are four candidates for the North Carolina Senate, Republican John Alexander and Democrat Tom Bradshaw vying for District 15 and Republican incumbent Chad Barefoot and Democrat Sarah Crawford.

There are four candidates for N.C. House seats. Democratic Brian Mountcastle is challenging incumbent Republican Chris Malone for the District 35 seat. Incumbent Republican Marilyn Avila is being challenged by Democrat Margaret Broadwell.

Supreme Court Justices Robin Hudson, Ola Lewis, Eric Levinson and Mike Robinson will attend.

Also attending will be the two candidates for Clerk of Superior Court, Democrat Sam Bridges and Republican Jennifer Knox, and Lorrin Freeman, the Democratic candidate for District Attorney District 10, will be on hand.

Vying for the District 1 seat on the Wake County Board of Commissioners are Democrat Sig Hutchinson and incumbent Republican Joe Bryan, and they will attend along with the candidates for District 2, Democrat Matt Calabria and incumbent Republican Phil Matthews. Democrats Jessica Holmes, running for the District 3 seat, will attend along with Democrat John Burns, trying for the District 7 seat.

The two candidates for Wake County Sheriff will attend, incumbent Republican Donnie Harrison and Democratic challenger Willie Rowe.

Wake Forest Finance Director Aileen Staples will also attend to tell people about the upcoming bond issues for parks and recreation, greenways, and streets and sidewalks.
