The Town of Wake Forest and the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce are partnering with the Rx Abuse Leadership Initiative (RALI) and Code 3 to bring the RALI CARES (Community. Awareness. Readiness. Engagement. Service.) educational trailer to the Joyner Park Community Center, 701 Harris Road, this Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The RALI CARES exhibit is an interactive experience set up as a mock teenage bedroom for families to walk through and learn where possible warning signs of substance misuse may be hidden. Tours are led by former vice cops, local law enforcement and other leaders.
As attendees walk through the trailer, law enforcement and experts answer questions and teach participants about warning signs, potential areas of concern and how to talk about substance misuse with young people. The experience is often an emotional one as parents see firsthand how normalized the issue has become. The trailer was designed with the help of people with substance use disorders who pointed out location and concealing tactics they used while struggling with addiction. The exhibit is a helpful tool in prevention and early warning sign education.
RALI is an alliance of local, state and national organizations committed to finding solutions to end the opioid crisis. The alliance supports programs that prevent the misuse of prescription medicines so that more lives can be saved from the opioid crisis.
