Wake Electric Scholarships is now accepting applications for the following 2015 scholarships:
The Fred M. Alford Memorial Scholarship
Wake Electric awards one Fred M. Alford Memorial scholarship of $2,000. This scholarship is in memory of former Wake Electric employee Fred M. Alford.
Requirements for the Fred M. Alford Memorial Scholarship include:
- Must be a child of or under legal guardianship of a Wake Electric member or live in a home served by Wake Electric
- Must be a high school graduating senior (cannot already be attending college)
- Must pursue a four-year undergraduate baccalaureate degree at an accredited institution in North Carolina
Touchstone Energy® Scholarships
16 scholarships of $1,250 are awarded. Requirements include:
- Must be a child of or under legal guardianship of a Wake Electric member or live in a home served by Wake Electric
- Must use these funds at a North Carolina college or university, community college, vocational or technical school
- Applicants can be a high school graduating senior or already enrolled full-time in a university, community college, vocational or technical school
Information Requirements
Applicants must provide the following:
- Completed application including financial information
- Application information MUST BE TYPED or application will be disqualified
- Transcript from high school, college or university, community college, vocational or technical school
- Two-page, double-spaced essay that describes the student’s career goals and how they intend to achieve them and explain why they believe they should receive the scholarship. ESSAY MUST BE TYPED and should NOT be more than two pages. The essay should show a thoughtful and original approach.
- Three letters of recommendation (the judges prefer thoughtful and original observations)

The deadline to submit applications to the Wake Electric Scholarship Program is March 16, 2015 by 5:00 p.m. Any applications received after the March 16th deadline (even if they are postmarked March 16) will be disqualified. Applicants will be notified of their status by the end of April 2015.
