Koinonia donates to local charities

After its February banquet and fund-raising auctions in February, the Koinonia Foundation board of directors added in the money raised with its annual Pumpkins, Mums and More sale and allocated recently funds to several local charitable organizations.

The groups and the people representing them at the presentation ceremony are Monica Kearney of Safe Space; Jenny Carrington of North East Wake Backpack Buddies; Joy Shillingsburg of Backpack Buddies; Mary Kate Keith of Meals on Wheels Wake County; Kevin Sharpe of Wake Forest Presbyterian Church Backpack Buddies; Rev. John Fawcett of Wake Forest Presbyterian Church Backpack Buddies; Gene Cross of ChurchNet and Jim Grove of Safe Space.

Koinonia grew out of a discussion in a Sunday School class and now is an interdenominational nonprofit with a mission of helping its neighbors in need. Since 1990, Koinonia has provided funding for food, shelter, clothing, medical assistance, and other needs for our neighbors in crisis situations. Whether they face a loss due to a house fire, medical complications, layoffs or family crisis, fellow community members have known that when they have exhausted all other avenues, there is a pathway that can lead to The Koinonia Foundation.
