Tickets available for charity auction Feb. 6
Though she has been a lifelong resident of the area, Pat had never heard of the Wake Forest organization with the unique name.
In need of double cataract surgery in late 2015, Pat found herself hit with a copay bill she simply couldn’t afford. Fearful she would lose her eyesight before she could save the money, she desperately asked people if they knew of any work she could do to earn cash. That’s when a friend told Pat about The Koinonia Foundation. Koinonia is the Greek word for communion or fellowship, but it would come to mean answered prayers to Pat.
“I had never heard of the Koinonia Foundation, but when my friend came to my door to tell me this local group had agreed to help me with the copay, I just started crying. I stood there and knew that Jesus did this, that this was an answered prayer,” she said.
Since 1990, The Koinonia Foundation has made its mission all about answering prayers for both individuals in need and organizations that help those in need in the greater Wake Forest area. Over the last 26 years, an all-volunteer board has led efforts to raise hundred of thousands of dollars through its annual auction; nearly 95 percent of those funds are given back to the community in the form of organizational and individual benevolence grants.
One local organization that will benefit from the Koinonia Cares Charity Auction is ChurchNet, a local non-profit organization that assists people with overdue utility bills. Gene Cross, ChurchNet Foundation president, was excited to learn The Koinonia Foundation has chosen ChurchNet as its 2016 Mission Focus Charity.
“I can think of no greater need for individuals and families to have ready access to utility services such as electricity, water and gas,” said Cross. All too often we take for granted when we reach over to switch on a light or adjust a thermostat. ChurchNet is thankful that The Koinonia Foundation recognizes our efforts and is willing to help raise funds to help us meet those needs.”
The Koinonia Cares Charity Auction will take place on Feb. 6 at The Forks Cafeteria in downtown Wake Forest starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets to enjoy the silent and live auctions as well as the catered buffet are $30 each. The Foundation is now accepting donated items and auction sponsorships.
