Holding Park Pool has a whole new look

The Town of Wake Forest has just completed a $750,000 renovation of the Holding Park Pool, which will be open on weekends until June 14, when it opens for the summer season.

The pool itself has had a new coat of paint and several leaks were repaired. There is a new epoxy floor on the pool deck, which will reduce the chance of people sliding while it also extends the life of the deck. There are new tiles and depth markers, a new diving board and slide and ADA compliant steps.

Swimmers will not see the new pumps and filters which replaced aging equipment.

The most extensive part of the renewal project involves the complete renovation of the swimming pool locker rooms. Refurbishments include the installation of new lockers, tile flooring, ceiling tiles and LED lighting, along with new stalls, showers and water-saving fixtures, as well as a fresh coat of paint.

The Holding Park restroom, which is attached to the pool’s concession stand, also experienced a dramatic makeover that features porcelain tile walls, epoxy flooring, new water-saving fixtures, freshly painted interior and exterior walls and a new diaper changing station.

“We are extremely excited about these wonderful enhancements at Holding Park Pool,” Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department Director Ruben Wall said. “Most of all, we’re excited for area residents who use the facility to enjoy the health and wellness benefits of swimming.”

Holding Park Pool, which opened in 1942, has seen several improvements in recent years. Last year the chain link fence surrounding the pool was replaced and additional landscaping was installed to improve the pool’s aesthetics.

The pool is one of our area’s largest outdoor public swimming pools. Open during the summer months, the 50-meter pool offers swimming to the general public, as well as swim lessons and parent/toddler swim times.

Open swim times are 1-6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Daily admission fees are $1 for children ages 2 and under; $3 for children ages 3-12, and $4 for patrons ages 13 and over.

Open swim passes are now available. Passes are for individuals only and may be purchased at the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St. The fee is $40 per person for Wake Forest (in-town) residents and $65 per person for non-residents.

Swim lesson registration will begin Monday, June 2, at town hall. The fee is $35 for Wake Forest (in-town) residents and $70 for non-Wake Forest residents. Classes will be offered for preschoolers (3-5-year-olds) and beginners (ages 6 and above). The swim lesson schedule will be available Tuesday, May 27, online and at town hall.

Parent/Toddler passes are also available and may be purchased at town hall for $30 each. Parent/Toddler passes are for one parent and up to two children ages 4 and under. Parent/Toddler swim begins June 15. Swim times are Monday through Saturday from noon to 1 p.m.
