May is Historic Preservation Month – it is also Fitness Month and you will need to be fit to keep up with all the events and meetings Wake Forest Senior Planner Michelle Michael has on her calendar.
The first thing you need to know is that the town’s Historic Preservation Plan Update is underway. You are asked to share your ideas about historic preservation by taking part in a survey at https://bit.ly/WFHistoricPreservationPlanUpdate. The survey will be open until May 13.
Also, the Community Visioning Workshop to kick off the plan update will be held next Tuesday, May 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Renaissance Centre. The two consultants for the plan update will be there as will Michael to answer questions and listen to your ideas about historic preservation.
Michael was at the regular meeting of the Wake Forest Historical Association Tuesday to talk about the Ailey Young House and how it has been rehabilitated by the work of local historians and historic preservation specialists. She has been working on it since 2008 and now can see completion on the horizon. The town is acquiring land next to the house from the Young heirs to build a parking lot and access to the house, which is not ready for visitors as it needs a porch and painting.
You can expect more information and at least one program about the Ailey Young House in the future.
