Groove with Affirmative Groove

Relaxing in the shade, sipping something cool and listening to some great local music. If that is your idea of an ideal way to spend a late Sunday afternoon, then head on over to the amphitheater in E. Carroll Joyner Park on Harris Road this Sunday, May 8, for a free concert in the series called Six Sundays in Spring.

It happens from 5 to 7 p.m., is all free, and is a great family event. Come as you are, bring your friends, your children and spouse, your in-laws, and a chair or blanket. Eating is optional; you can bring a basket for an al fresco meal or buy something different from one of the several vendors.

This week Affirmative Groove, a high energy dance band with an eight-person lineup, will show you how they can play anything from the early classics to Motown to today’s hits.

The rest of the concerts will feature: May 15 – The Johnny Folsom 4; May 22 – Faol Liath; and May 29 –JamRock. In the event of rain, the free concerts will switch to the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street. Remember you cannot bring alcohol, personal grills, weapons of any kind or unleashed pets. But do come and enjoy.
