Get moving for the CROP Walk

The 35th Annual Wake Forest CROP Hunger Walk is set for Sunday, September 28, at 2:30 p.m. Now is the time for churches, organizations, school groups, businesses, and individuals to set up your team online at www.cropwalkonline.org/wakeforestnc, to join an existing team, to register and make a donation as an independent walker, or to donate on behalf of a team, a friend, or a family member who has already signed up to participate in CROP Walk 2014.

This 35th year is an important milestone, and we are introducing the Golden Sneaker Award Challenge, a traveling trophy that will be inscribed this year (and in the future) with the name of the walking team that raises the most money in donations and returns all donations by October 15, 2014.

The walk, which begins and ends at Wake Forest United Methodist Church, 905 South Main Street, is approximately 3.5 miles on sidewalks that include a view of beautiful historic homes in Wake Forest. Anyone may participate. It is not a requirement to walk the entire distance. All participants will sign in at the Welcome Tent at WFUMC at 2:30 p.m. on September 28.   Step-off time will be 3 p.m. The route includes two water drink stops provided by volunteers.

Before and after the walk, visit the table where you can write notes of encouragement to members of the local households that receive one grocery bag filled with food once a month from Tri-Area Ministry. Bring along a camera to take “Helpie” photos of yourself and others in front of a pyramid of boxes and cans of food that will grow taller as you and other walkers and teams drop off the contributions.

This year’s event goal is at least 200 walkers and donations of $10,000 or more to help end hunger and poverty here in our community and around the world. One-fourth of the funds raised here and all the donated food will go to the Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry located in Wake Forest.

Join us by registering online, making your own donation, and then get started recruiting sponsors to make donations on behalf of your efforts for Wake Forest CROP Hunger Walk 2014. For additional information, contact office@wakeforestumc.org.
