Saturday, June 1, with a family-friendly 5K walk/run from 8 to 9 a.m., followed by free activities from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., including an Environmental Education Expo, health and fitness activities and much more.
Check-in for the 5K walk/run begins at 7 a.m., and the start time is 8 a.m. Online registration continues at http://bit.ly/wfnationaltrailsday. The entry fee is $35, and same-day registrations will be accepted. A loop of the paved trails throughout Joyner Park will comprise the 3.1-mile course. The course map is provided online.
Designed to raise funds to support the maintenance of current trails and the development of new greenways throughout Wake Forest, the National Trails Day 5k is a timed walk/run for both children and adults. Strollers are welcome but will be placed at the back of the pack to allow runners a clear start. Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, along with the top three male and female finishers in several age categories.
Following the 5k walk/run, the Environmental Education Expo will offer both children and adults a unique opportunity to experience the wonders of nature while learning about the environment. Featuring interactive environmental education stations set up throughout Joyner Park, the expo will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about the Wake Forest greenway system and get an up-close look at a variety of living things they might encounter along Town trails:
* Examine reptiles and amphibians and learn about their tracks and signs at an exhibit from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences;
* Learn how to identify song birds, identify and reduce stormwater pollutants, and make fishing line containers
* Hear animal night calls;
* View camping exhibits and more!
National Trails Day attendees can also learn more about North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail and the seven principles of Leave No Trace.
Finally, Cirque De Vol and Camp Gladiator will offer a variety of free health and fitness activities in the Joyner Park amphitheater according to the following schedule:
* 9:30-10 a.m. – Family Yoga
* 10-10:30 a.m. – Fitness Camp/Workout
* 10:30 a.m.-Noon – Hoop Jam & Meditation
* Noon-12:30 p.m. – Family Yoga
Please note: Anyone planning to participate in Family Yoga is encouraged to bring a yoga mat.
Several local organizations and businesses are scheduled to participate in the Environmental Education Expo, including https://sdarcwellness.com/buy-viagra-online/ Heritage High School, Wakefield High School, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, the Friends of the Mountain to Sea Trail, the Boys and Girl Scouts, Frog Hollow Outdoor, Neuse River Hawks and many more.
Children who pick up a passport at the Wake Forest Greenways Advisory Board booth and have it stamped at 15 stations or more will be eligible for a special prize (while supplies last). Children who have their passport stamped at every station will be eligible for bigger prizes.
Lumpy’s and Charlie’s Kabob Grill will also be onsite offering delicious food and sweet treats.
