Full fall offerings at the RC

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre is pleased to announce its schedule of fall 2014 classes and workshops.

The Renaissance Centre’s Fall Arts Program offers a range of classes in a variety of disciplines designed to excite and develop the artistic vision and creative talents of youth, starting at age four, and adults. These courses are designed to spark the imagination, teach technical skills, promote creative problem-solving, build respect for the expression of others and inspire a lifelong connection to the visual and creative arts and art making.

Each class is taught by an accomplished artist-instructor in a relaxed environment that encourages exploration of process and self-expression. Class offerings cover a range of media including knitting, quilting, screenwriting, acting and more. Class sizes are limited to allow for attention to individual interests and skill development. The center is at 405 South Brooks Street.

The Fall Arts Program gets underway Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. with Acting Adventures. Designed for kids ages 4-6, this four-week class encourages students to explore the wonderful world of theater through role-play, theater games and characterization. The cost is $60 and the instructor is Forest Moon Theater’s Beth Martin.

Also getting underway on Sept. 9 are Beginning Crochet and Beginning Knitting for ages 11 and older, as well as Zentangle for Kids (ages 8-14).

But wait a second! What exactly is ‘Zentangle?’ Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Almost anyone can use it to create beautiful images. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well -being.

Other Zentangle classes and workshops being offered in September include Explore Zentangle for ages 8 and up and Ladies Night Zentangle for ages 18 and older.

The Renaissance Centre’s Zentangle classes and workshops give students the opportunity to get started with Zentangle, from dividing up their space to picking ‘tangles.’ The classes also include the history and purpose of Zentangle.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16, the Renaissance Centre will partner with Burning Coal Theatre to offer Acting for Middle School for young people in grades 6-9 and Screenwriting for ages 18 and older. Burning Coal Theatre’s Jonathan Fitts will serve as the instructor for both classes and the cost of each is $200.

Additional offerings in October and November include Pinsanity Arts and Craft Studio workshops. Featuring a variety of ‘make and take’ workshops inspired by pins on Pinterest, these Saturday sessions include Wine Cork Pendant (Oct. 7), Nativity Felt Ornaments (Nov. 1), Tag Ornaments (Nov. 8), Clothespin Ornaments (Nov. 15) and Santa’s Secret Workshop for Kids (Nov. 15).
