The board of directors for the Friends of Wake Forest Public Library sent out a plea this week for people to volunteer for vacant positions. You may be interested; if so, read on.
“The Friends of the Wake Forest Library Board of Directors would like to extend an invitation to any who might be interested in giving back to the community in the area of our local library. The board is in need of members to fill positions that have become vacant due to retiring directors. Without filling these positions, the future of the Friends is at stake. We need you!
“The Friends have done so much for the library and its patrons over the years. Through their efforts and with the support of the community, our library has been the recipient of many gifts: furniture, an iPad and an iPod, an Apple TV and large screen TV, art work, supplies for the children’s programs, and on and on.
“Volunteering for the board may sound like an overwhelming commitment, but it’s not! The board meets briefly, only once a month. Duties required between meetings vary depending on a director’s position.
“There is one big annual event which requires a fair bit of effort for a few weeks: the Used Book Sale. But the board doesn’t do that alone. There are many volunteers who assist with this effort.
“Through the year there are sometimes other smaller activities, such as a birthday party for the branch or a holiday appreciation luncheon for the library staff.
“We are in strong need of new members to fill some empty director’s positions. You may currently visit our local library and your children or grandchildren may participate in the children’s programs. Being a part of the Friends of the Wake Forest Library Board of Directors would give you a voice in future activities while allowing you to give back to the community in a special way. We would love to have you on the board. If you cannot participate on the board, please think of friends who might be interested.
