World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will be observed this year on Saturday, June 15.

In support of the day, the Northern Wake Senior Center (NWSC), 235 E. Holding Ave., will host a free seminar on Elder Fraud on Wednesday, June 12, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Co-hosted by the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of NC, the FBI, and Meals on Wheels, the session will highlight the most common types of fraud and scams targeting the elder community, including what to watch for when it comes to fraudulent calls, texts, and emails.

No registration is required. For more information, contact Michelle Scott, Victim Witness Coordinator for the US Attorney’s Office, at 919-856-4003 or USANCE.Victim.Assistance.Training@usdoj.gov.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations. The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.
