Because of significant flooding and out of concern for public safety, the Town of Wake Forest is closing the Smith Creek, Sanford Creek and Dunn Creek greenways until further notice.
Recent heavy rains have caused these greenways, including many trail bridges and boardwalks, to be impassable due to flooding. The flooding has also caused soil erosion and undermining along several sections of greenway.
As a result, town officials have deemed it in the best interest and safety of users to close the greenways until the water recedes and accurate assessments can be made.
Signs announcing the trail closures will be posted later today (Tuesday). Barricades will also be installed in areas where the undermining of trails has occurred. Greenway users are urged to obey the signs and avoid these areas.
