First Home & Garden Show this weekend

Want to perk up your home, get some redecorating ideas, need gardening advice? Go to the first Wake Forest Home & Garden Show which will be held in the Renaissance Centre for the Arts at 405 Brooks Street this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13 and 14. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free

Sponsored by Mitchell Heating & Cooling and B93.9 New Country, the event will showcase the latest in home improvement products, services, and features. A variety of exhibits will be offered both inside and outside the Renaissance Centre featuring over 40 local experts.

  • Kids Corner Storytime will be presented Saturday at 11:15 a.m. by Sue Lucey of Page 158 Books.
  • Save Some Green! Energy Saving & Annual Maintenance will be offered Saturday at 1 p.m. by Allen Mitchell of Mitchell Heating & Cooling.
  • Repurpose, Refinish, Reimagine: Demonstrations, Examples and Top Tips will be presented Saturday at 2:30 p.m. by Shanna Labrador of The ReFab Lab.
  • Home Buying & Selling – What You Should Know! will be offered Saturday at 4 p.m. by Brian Pate of Pate Realty Group.
  • Expert Advice for Successful Gardening in the Piedmont will be presented Sunday at 2 p.m. by Atlantic Avenue Orchid & Garden.
  • Interior Design Tips & Trends: Small Changes with a Big Impact will be offered Sunday at 4 p.m. by Rhonda Benvie of Help me Rhonda Interiors.

Representatives from Wake Forest Power, the Wake Forest Inspections Department, and the Wake Forest Fire Department will be on hand to answer questions and staff their respective information booths in the Renaissance Centre parking lot. The fire department will also showcase a variety of fire equipment, including a fire truck, and several firefighters will share useful fire prevention tips, along with information on smoke detectors and stop, drop, and roll.

Several food trucks will also be on site throughout the two-day event, including Flaming Highway Grill, 3F’s Food Truck, and Lumpy’s Ice Cream on Saturday and Arepa Culture, Chirba Chirba Dumpling, and Lumpy’s Ice Cream on Sunday.

Admission to the home and garden show is free, but attendees are encouraged to donate quality items to The Giving Tree to support students attending public, private, and charter schools in Wake Forest. A designated Drive Thru Drop-off will be provided in the Renaissance Centre parking lot and volunteers will be on hand to assist attendees with their donations.

The proceeds raised through the resale of donated items allows The Giving Tree to provide funding for ongoing educational, enrichment, and extracurricular programs. Examples of acceptable items are antiques, collectibles, art, baskets, books, craft supplies, dishes, home décor, DVD’s, fabrics, small and medium sized furniture, games, holiday items, and small kitchen appliances.
