The cause of the intense fire which consumed the historic Cullom House on North Main Street the night of March 25-26 has not been determined according to the county’s fire service, but the Wake Forest Police Department is continuing to investigate.
“Due to the extent of the damage and limited information, at this time the cause is listed as undetermined unless additional information can be provided to indicate a cause,” Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Charlie Johnson with Wake County Fire Services said this week. “I’m not sure if the Wake Forest Police Department is conducting any follow-up investigation of not, but our investigation of the scene has been completed.”
In response to an email sent to Wake Forest Police Chief Jeff Leonard, the town’s Public Information Officer Bill Crabtree sent a message saying: “The police department is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Once the investigation is completed, we’ll share the findings.”
The owners, David White and Shelley McPhatter of Raleigh, were renovating the house where they planned to live. They reportedly told investigators no one had been in the house after early morning that day. The electric wiring had not been installed.
