Did you know that the Wake Forest Farmers Market’s vendors grow their own vegetables and raise their own meats, and their farms and gardens are all within 75 miles of downtown Wake Forest where you will find the market every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon?
Do you need some lotus or water lilies for your garden pond? Bee Happy Farm & Apiary will be happy to help you and to sell you some of their just-picked blueberries and local honey.
What else will you find at the market, which is located in the parking lot behind CVS? Lots of fresh-picked produce – garlic, carrots, green beans, kale, sweet corn, okra, peppers from sweet to hot, cucumbers, tomatoes either red, green or cherry, potatoes that are also colored red, white and blue, beets, turnips, microgreens in many flavors, yellow squash, zucchini, patty pan squash, green onions, watermelons, cantaloupes, blueberries and blackberries.
Then there are the meats – beef, chicken, duck, lamb, pork, rabbit and goat – in a variety of cuts and packaging for each.
And all the other items on sale. You will find cheese, honey, fresh-cut flowers, locally roasted coffee, knit hats and other knit items, baked goods of all descriptions including gluten-free, pasta and sauces, jewelry, breads and peacock feathers.
The veterans in the VFW tent always have a raffle going or are willing to take your donation for the different groups that help veterans.
The Wake County Master Gardeners know the answers to your tough questions about gardening in red clay and heat, and they will give you a soil test kit so you can learn how best to treat your soil.
