Finally, a signal!

January = slow molasses = DOT signal construction = another accident at the Rogers Road/Marshall Farm Street intersection involving a school bus.

It was sadly ironic that there was an accident involving a school bus and other vehicles at the Rogers Road/Marshall Farm Street on Thursday, March 10, the same day an official with the state Department of Transportation confirmed a traffic signal will be installed at that intersection by mid-April. Thankfully, there were no injuries from the accident.

DOT Deputy Division Traffic Engineer John Sandor said the concrete foundations for the signal have been approved and will be poured in about two weeks. A week later, after the concrete has cured, crews will begin installing the poles and wiring. If the weather cooperates, the new traffic signal will be turned on by early to mid-April. “All of this is weather contingent,” Sandor said. “We are coming up on the wet season and rain slows down construction with concrete.”

What about the other signal, the one at South Franklin Street and the N.C. 98 Bypass (Dr. Calvin Jones Highway), that was approved and funded at the same time as the one at Rogers and Marshall Farm? When asked if his department has a date for that signal, Director of Engineering Eric Keravuori said, “We do not. They took core samples of the soil where the pole foundations will be poured about three weeks ago. I suspect that they are in the design phase.” Both of the Wake Forest signals were part of a large traffic signal contract. So, it is waiting time again.
