Early voting in the Democratic and Republican primaries for the U.S. House seat held by Rep. George Holding, the N.C. House District 35 seat held by Rep. Chris Malone, and five seats on the Wake County Board of Commissioners is underway in Wake Forest and will end on Saturday, May 5.
Voting hours at the Northern Wake Regional Center are from noon to 7 p.m. every week day, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5.
At the top of the ballots will be the contests for the U.S. House of Representatives District 2, the seat now held by Holding of Raleigh who is being challenged by Gregory A. Chesser II of Louisburg.
On the Democratic side, three people are vying for the party’s nomination to face Holding or Chesser in November: Wendy E. May of Selma, Kenneth M. Romley of Raleigh and Linda D. Coleman of Knightdale.
In the contest over the North Carolina House District 35 seat now held by Malone there are Democratic and Republican primaries, and all the candidates live in Wake Forest. Isaac Burke is challenging Malone on the Republican ballot while Terence Everitt and Adam Wright are on the Democratic ballot, each man wanting to face the Republican winner in November.
Wake Forest Democratic voters will also be able to cast ballots in five contests for seats on the Wake County Board of Commissioners. Incumbent Sig Hutchinson is facing opposition from Jeremiah F.L. Pierce in District 1; Lindy M. Brown is challenging incumbent Matthew M. Calabria in District 2; in District 4 incumbent Ervin Portman has a challenger in Susan Evans; incumbent James West is facing challenger Robert Finch Sr. in District 5; and Vickie Adamson is challenging incumbent John Burns in District 7.
There are no contests in county commissioner districts 3 and 6 where Jessica Holmes and Greg Ford are the incumbents, respectively.
There are 718,256 registered voters in Wake County, which does use paper ballots. Of that 718,256, 267,480 are Democrats, 188,303 are Republicans, 4,647 are Libertarians, 6 are Green, and 259,498 are unaffiliated.
