DOT meeting about US 1/Capital Boulevard postponed

A meeting scheduled by the North Carolina Department of Transportation for Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Renaissance Centre in Wake Forest has been postponed because of anticipated heavy rains and wind from Hurricane Michael. The meeting will be rescheduled for a later date.

The meeting, about a proposal to convert US 1/Capital Boulevard to a controlled-access facility from I-540 in Raleigh to Purnell Road/Harris Road in Wake Forest, was set to take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St.

Additional information about this project is available at the N.C. Department of Transportation’s public input website at https://publicinput.com/US-1-Capital-Boulevard.

A new date for the meeting will be announced in the coming days.

One Response

  1. Hope WF area residents will stay alert and aware of the US1 Expressway potential impact to traffic movement / congestion on existing streets in town. This concern due to limited access points on the expressway that lead to yet to be determined service roads. Example: no US1 access at Stadium Drive, so where will approx 1,000 high school student cars go each scholol day? New fire station on Jenkins Rd will need to alter its response route to many calls that currently use US1 intersection.
I am in favor of the needed expressway, BUT think our towns leaders need to consider residual impact to in town traffic issues and future of existing commercial enterprises and their significant tax contributions.
