Dementia series continues on April 25

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts is hosting a series of seminars through June to raise awareness about Alzeheimer’s disease and related dementias. Each seminar in the 2019 Dementia Awareness Education Series offers residents the opportunity to learn about dozens of dementia-related programs, services, products and resources – all in one location.

This year’s series continues Thursday, April 25, at 9 a.m. with Effective Communication Strategies. Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Join us to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. The Effective Communication Strategies program of the Alzheimer’s Association was designed to provide practical information and resources to help dementia caregivers learn to decode verbal and behavioral messages from people with dementia.

The final workshop of this year’s series will address Healthy Living for Your Brain & Body on Thursday, June 27.

All workshops are free, but pre-registration is required. To view the entire 2019 Dementia Awareness Education schedule and pre-register, visit www.wakeforestrencen.org/education/dementia-awareness-education<http://www.wakeforestrencen.org/education/dementia-awareness-education>.

The Renaissance Centre is presenting the series in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern North Carolina and Wake Forest SING as part of an ongoing effort to establish Wake Forest as a dementia-friendly community.
