Mayor Vivian Jones has appointed a 10-member committee to plan an event celebrating Wake Forest High School’s 2017 N.C. High School Athletic Association 4AA football championship.
The Cougars defeated Mallard Creek 21-0 on Dec. 9 to capture the school’s second consecutive 4AA state championship.
The committee is comprised of the following Town officials, community and civic club leaders, and Wake Forest High School boosters and supporters: Ann Welton, Lisa Hayes, Mary Petretich, Joe Kimray, Jill Bright, Stacy Bagley, Cindy Joyner, Jackie DeLuke, Liz Simpers, and Josh Copeland.
The committee will begin meeting later this month to plan an event tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 – the conclusion of the Feb. 10 Mardi Gras Street Festival.

There are so many Cougar fans who supported the Cougars throughout the whole season.
Why are they not on the committee???
Totally agree John Rominsky and Jim Thompson. Over and over see the same people/positions used for input and then folks wonder why “apathy” when time to vote. We have so many talented people who have a desire to help but don’t want to endure the “political process” of being chosen. Nothing disrespectful to the members now as they are the good folks who take time out of their lives to serve but why not spread the wealth, bring in new folks with new ideas and strenghten the bonds within the community.
Why does the Mayor always hand lick committees and appoint whomever she chooses? There are so many people in town that would better represent on a panel like this that don’t even get the chance to do so.
It’s the same reason that other schools who win championships aren’t celebrated in the same fashion.
