Christmas holiday schedules

The Wake Forest Town Hall and other administrative offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 24, through Wednesday, Dec. 26, for the Christmas holiday. Police service will not be interrupted, but the Town’s bus service and sanitation schedules will be affected.

Town offices will re-open Thursday, Dec. 27, at 8 a.m.

Bus Service

The Wake Forest Loop will operate on Monday, Dec. 24, but the Wake Forest-Raleigh express will not. Neither bus service will operate on Tuesday, Dec. 25, but both will resume their normal schedules Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Garbage & Recycling

The collection of garbage and recycling for the week of Dec. 24 will change as follows: Monday’s route will be collected according to the normal schedule. From that point forward, the week’s collection schedule will operate one day later than normal and extend into Saturday. So, for example, Tuesday’s route will be collected Wednesday and Friday’s route will be collected Saturday.

Bulk Waste

Bulk pick-ups will be suspended during the week of Dec. 24 and resume Dec. 31. To schedule a bulk pick-up, complete the online bulk waste pick-up request form.

Residents without internet service can schedule their pick-up by calling 919- 435-9570. Residents who call after hours may leave a voicemail message. All voicemail requests for bulk pick-up service must include the resident’s name, physical address, and telephone number, along with a description of the bulk waste items to be collected. Any service request that does not include the required information will not be processed.

When scheduling a bulk waste pick-up, Wake Forest residents are urged to follow the Town’s bulk waste guidelines. Defined in the Town of Wake Forest Code of Ordinances as “refuse weighing in excess of 75 pounds each,” bulk waste includes any item that does not fit in the Town-issued roll-out garbage cart. Examples of bulk waste pick-up items include furniture, lawn mowers, swings, and book shelves.

Yard Waste

The Town of Wake Forest will suspend yard waste and loose-leaf collection during the week of Dec. 24. The break will allow crews to focus their efforts on collecting Christmas trees and provide the Fleet Services Division an opportunity to make much-needed repairs to the Town’s leaf collection equipment.

The Town of Wake Forest continues to ask residents to be patient as crews work to collect large amounts of leaves and other yard waste along local streets and in neighborhoods throughout our community.

Residents have the option of bagging their leaves for collection on their regular yard waste collection day. Residents who choose not to bag their leaves are reminded to follow these tips when preparing leaves for collection:

  • Rake leaves into piles behind the curb, so they do not interfere with traffic or drainage.
Do not mix sticks, rocks, pine cones, limbs or other debris with loose leaves. The town’s vacuum equipment is only designed to pick up loose leaves. Your cooperation will help prevent mechanical breakdowns and collection delays.
  • Place limbs and brush behind the curb in a pile separate from leaves. Limbs and brush larger than one inch but smaller than six inches in diameter must be no longer than six feet. Limbs and logs larger than six inches in diameter must not exceed two feet in length. Logs must not exceed 10 inches in diameter.
  • Keep brush away from other objects such as, fences, walls, water meters, utility poles, mailboxes, fire hydrants and cars.

The Town of Wake Forest appreciates the patience and cooperation of citizens.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Beginning Monday, Dec. 31, Wake Forest will collect and recycle Christmas trees from residential homes according to the normal yard waste collection schedule.

All Wake Forest residents whose yard waste is collected by the Town may participate in the “Treecycling” program. To recycle your Christmas tree, please remove all decorations, tinsel, nails, stands and bags from the tree and set it behind the curb for collection. Artificial trees cannot be recycled.
