Check out the senior center events

Experts say older people should get out and get moving, and that is easy and pleasurable if you get out and go to the Northern Wake Senior Center on East Holding Avenue.

First put a big star on your calendar on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon for the Annual Health Fair & Flu Shots. This event is also open to the public. There will be free screenings, health information, door prizes and more.

Another star should go on Friday, Oct. 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. when Raleigh Radiology will provide free bone density screening.

Now let’s look at the classes and sessions.

A wonderful course, Constitution and Government Class, will be taught Thursdays, starting Sept. 11, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The first four weeks will cover the U.S. Constitution and the last six weeks will cover the Bill of Rights. There is no charge.

There is also no charge for a one-day talk, Pet Loss – It’s OK to Grieve – on Saturday, Sept. 13, beginning at 2 p.m. It will help anyone who owns an aging pet or who has lost a pet family member.

Members of the Wake Forest Lions Club will be at the center Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. to tell people about the Lions Club, how to join and how to get involved in your community.

There will be two days of a special hour, Memory Crafts with Heartland Hospice: the two Tuesdays on Oct. 7 and 21 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Remember that the Northern Wake Senior Center line dancers, the Carolina Steppers, will perform at the North Carolina State Fair during Senior Day, Tuesday, Oct. 21, at both 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The center, which is owned by the Town of Wake Forest and operated by Resources for Seniors, has a healthy line-up of daily activities. It is free and open to everyone; a great place to make friends if you are new to town.
