Chamber holding flood food drive

The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rolesville Chamber of Commerce have joined together to present the Chamber Business Expo from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Richland Creek Community Church. Admission is free, however visitors are asked to bring food items to help re-stock the Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry and New Bethel Food Pantry.

“Our local food pantries are working overtime to help fill the shelves at food pantries across Eastern North Carolina,” said Corey Hutcherson, Director of Community Relations for the Wake Forest Chamber. “Hurricane Matthew created emergency situations for so many people. We can help by donating food right here.”

Hutcherson reports that the immediate needs include cereal, oatmeal, tuna, pasta, canned vegetables, canned fruit, soup, diapers, and baby wipes. Additional needs include: peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, canned meats, Chef Boyardee, grits, rice, mac & cheese, dried beans, crackers, canned soup, flour, and sugar. No glass jars please.

Admission to the Expo is free, and business professionals and residents alike are encouraged to attend. Many exhibitors will have giveaways, and seminars will be held on car buying, cooking, and gadgets for the holidays. More than 115 businesses and nonprofits will have booth displays, making it the largest business expo in the Chamber’s history.

Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce President Ann Welton is urging all chamber members and area voters to vote yes for the half-cent sales tax that will make possible the Wake County Transit Plan.

“No matter which side of the fence you are on, there is a local issue that will be on the ballot that affects all of us in Wake County. The Wake County Transit Plan Referendum will, if passed, add a ½ cent to the sales tax which will enable the implementation of the Transit Plan. The plan will bring modern public transportation to our county and town, which in turn will benefit employers and residents.

If the referendum passes, we will get:

  • An all-day, every-day transit route from Downtown Wake Forest to Raleigh and back,
  • Express rush hour routes from both Rolesville and Wake Forest to Raleigh, linking to RTP; and
  • Park-and-ride or drop-off access to core frequent network via Triangle Town Center, providing access to northern BRT corridor.

“The Wake Forest Chamber is partnering with the Raleigh Chamber and all 12 Wake County chambers of commerce to promote the plan and the referendum. Between now and November, we’ll be working to educate Wake County residents to vote for the referendum, and we’ve been asked to help raise funds to support the effort.

“Today I’m writing to ask you to contribute to the cause. Your support will allow the Moving Wake County Forward organization educate Wake County voters on this important issue. If the referendum passes, we’ll all breathe easier!
