The Town of Wake Forest will celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road.
The free event will include an Environmental Education Expo, LimeBike bike-share kickoff, Family Yoga and much more.
Featuring interactive environmental education stations set up throughout Joyner Park, the Environmental Education Expo will offer both children and adults a unique opportunity to experience the wonders of nature while learning about the environment. As part of the expo, attendees will have the opportunity to get an up-close look at a variety of living things they might encounter along Town trails and greenways:
xamine reptiles and amphibians and learn about their tracks and signs at an exhibit from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences;
- Learn how to identify song birds;
- Learn how to identify and reduce stormwater pollutants;
- Learn all about bees;
- Hear animal night calls;
- See camping exhibits, reptiles and more!
This year’s National Trails Day will also serve as a kick-off to Wake Forest’s new bike-share program with LimeBike. LimeBike officials will be on hand offering free LimeBike rides throughout Joyner Park.
The day’s festivities will also include Family Yoga sessions from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and noon to 12:30 p.m., as well as Hoop Jam & Singing Bowl Soundbaths from 10 a.m. to noon. Anyone planning to participate in Family Yoga is encouraged to bring a yoga mat.
National Trails Day attendees can also learn more about North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail and the seven principles of Leave No Trace.
Several local organizations and businesses are scheduled to participate in the Environmental Education Expo, including Heritage High School, Wakefield High School, Wake Forest High School, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, the Friends of the Mountain to Sea Trail, the Boys and Girl Scouts, PetSmart and many more.
Children who pick up a passport at the Wake Forest Greenways Advisory Board booth and have it stamped at 15 stations or more will be eligible for a special prize (while supplies last). Children who have their passport stamped at every station will be eligible for bigger prizes.
Lumpy’s and Big C Chicken & Waffles will also be onsite offering delicious food and sweet treats.
