Franklin County Arts Council will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Friday, May 5, from 4 until 7 p.m. at UpFront Gallery in downtown Franklinton with an arts exhibit by five Hispanic artists.
There will be live music, Songs of the Soul provided by Teresa Fernandez and Ramon Brito playing the Hispanic harp. Artists exhibiting are Cornelio Campos, Nora Hernande, Clina Polloni, Gabriela Zabala, and Arron Vick.
Cornelio Campos is a Mexican artist born in 1971 in Cheran Michoacan-Mexico. Cornelio specializes in paintings that illustrate the complex realities of migrant life that are often concealed or misconstrued to the public, creating a modern folkloric art style and exploring culture through vibrant colors and deep symbolism.
Nora Hernandez was born in Honduras where she studied business administration. She is founder of The Center for Personal Development (SSP), an institution dedicated to providing personal development. Her art expresses the beauty of the Latino culture.
Clina Polloni, a member of Franklin County Arts Council, was born and raised in Chile. Clina now lives and paint in her studio in Franklinton. She enjoys impressionism as well as realism and has developed her own unique style. She is equally at ease portraying people in their environment and activities, showing a dialogue with nature’s light and color. Clina also teaches private art lessons.
Gabriela Zabala was born in Ecuador. She likes to contemplate the clouds, cook Ecuadorian food, paint and write poetry. She works to improve the health of the Latino population in North Carolina. Her paintings as well as her poems are a meaningful expression of who she is in relation to a higher self and the real world.
Aaron Vick was born and raised in Raleigh. Art has been his passion since he was a child. His inspiration in painting Latin America culture started with his wife of 42 years, Julia Polloni Vick who was born in Chili, and his two sons. Together they have traveled extensively throughout Latin America, especially Chile, painting and enjoying their family.
The FCAC’s Diversity Team seeks to sponsor various arts opportunities in an effort to increase overall interest and participation in the culturally diverse community that is Franklin County.
