*The Wake Forest Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon this Saturday, Oct. 19, in the employee parking lot along South Taylor Street behind Wake Forest Town Hall.

Local farmers and artisans will have meats, seasonal vegetables, bread, baked good and other local wares for sale. See the market’s Facebook page for information about the vendors and sign up for a weekly notice about the offerings that Saturday. Remember the Wake Forest Farmers Market is unusual in that it is owned by the farmers who sell their wares there.

*Monday Night Bingo at The Factory is hosted by the Wake Forest Kiwanis Club in the Mill Room from 7 to 9:30 p.m. every Monday night. All profits support the club’s projects for children. Visit www.wakeforestbingo.com for more information.

*Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry at 149 East Holding Avenue is now open from 9 to 11 a.m. every third Saturday along with its regular hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for food distribution. It serves about 700 families in Wake Forest, Youngsville, Rolesville and their surrounding areas. Call 919-556-7144 for information about receiving food, volunteering and donations. *Hope House Weekly Food Pantry distributes food at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Hope House volunteers pick up the food from the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina and the house typically has vegetables, fruits, salad packages and breads but sometimes does have meat, eggs, fruit juice and milk. *Stop Hunger, Feed Hope with the Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry at their third annual dinner-auction-fundraiser to combat hunger on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Wake Forest Presbyterian Church. See article in this issue for all the details.

*The Joyner Park Community Center grand opening will be Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. The event will serve as the official opening of the 32,000-square-foot community center and its playground. All area residents are invited to attend.

*The NC Symphony will present a free Music Discovery & Instrument Zoo on Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts, 405 South Brooks Street. See more information in this issue.

*There will be a town board candidates’ forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre sponsored by the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce. It is free. More information is available in this issue.

*The 2019 Lawn & Landscape Series concludes Thursday, Oct. 24, with Proper Tree Care led by Urban Forester Luke Devores. The session from 6 to 8 p.m. does require registration although it is free. See the article in this issue about how to register.

*The annual Halloween Spooktacular will be held this year at the new Joyner Park Community Center at 701 Harris Road from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24. More information is available in this issue.

*Wake Forest Rise Against Hunger will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Wake Forest United Methodist Church. Registration is required; see article in this issue to find out how.

*Two Smart Cycling classes are offered by the Town of Wake Forest. The class for beginners will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, and the class for advanced riders will be held Saturday, Nov. 2. Both sessions will be offered from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the ground floor meeting room of town hall at 301 South Brooks Street.

*The Alzheimer’s Association – Eastern North Carolina Chapter will host an advocacy training Tuesday, Oct. 29, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Wake Forest Town Hall. See details in this week’s issue.

*Operation Medicine Drop sponsored by the Wake Forest Police Department will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, inside the ground-floor meeting room at the Wake Forest Town Hall. This is a prescription and over-the-counter medication take-back initiative that promotes proper medication disposal. Please see the article in this week’s issue for all the details.

*The next Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events class will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Wake Forest Renaissance Center on Tuesday, Oct. 29. See article in this issue for information about how to register for this free class.

*Urban Forestry Coordinator Luke Devores will lead two one-hour fall foliage tours on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. No registration is required; see more in this week’s issue.

*After the Move: Wake Forest without the College will be the topic for a forum hosted by the Wake Forest Historical Association and led by Ed Morris, the executive director at the Wake Forest Historical Museum from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. The program is free and there will be refreshments. See article in this issue for more details.

*Election Day is Nov. 5, and Wake Forest voters will elect three town commissioners. The polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you are unsure about where you should vote, check your voter registration card which gives the name of the building and its address or you can call the Wake County Board of Elections at 919-856-6241 or go to voter@wakegov.com.

*The first Unity in the Community event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Alston-Massenburg Center at 416 North Taylor Street. Sponsored by the Northeast Community Coalition and the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department, it will feature free food, music and fun with several area churches and community organizations sharing information about resources and services. It is free to all.

*Joshua Lozoff’s Life is Magic will be onstage at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for two performances on Friday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. See all the details in this week’s issue.

*The 14th annual Gobbler’s Run 5K will take place Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 28, at the Wake Forest Boys and Girls Club at 325 South Wingate Street. Be advised that it is capped at 2,300 runners this year so register early. Register online at https://gobblersrun.itsyourrace.com.
