*The Wake Forest Farmers Market will be open from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday, Jan. 19, in the employee parking lot along South Taylor Street behind Wake Forest Town Hall.
Local farmers and artisans will have meats, seasonal vegetables, bread, baked good and other local wares for sale. See the market’s Facebook page for information about the vendors and sign up for a weekly notice about the offerings that Saturday. Remember the Wake Forest Farmers Market is unusual in that it is owned by the farmers who sell their wares there.

*Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry at 149 East Holding Avenue is now open from 9 to 11 a.m. every third Saturday along with its regular hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for food distribution. *Hope House Weekly Food Pantry distributes food at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Hope House volunteers pick up the food from the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina and the house typically has vegetables, fruits, salad packages and breads but sometimes does have meat, eggs, fruit juice and milk. *A Back to the ‘50s Sock Hope will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street. Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door. See article in this issue for more information.
*The Legacy Motown Revue will kick off the Rockin’ the Forest music series on Friday, Jan. 18 at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street. Backed by a horn band, the four performers will help you recall one of the most influential periods in music history. Tickets are $10 and available at the center’s box office, 919-435-9458. The series will continue with Big Love, a six-piece dance band, on Feb. 22 and The Catalinas, a beach music band on March 15.
*The 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, at Friendship Chapel Baptist Church on Friendship Chapel Road beginning with a light meal at 6 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m. The celebration is free and everyone in the community is invited.
The next Food Security meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 11:30 to 2 p.m. in the ground floor meeting room in the Wake Forest Town Hall best accessed from South Taylor Street.
