*Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry at 149 East Holding Avenue is now open from 9 to 11 a.m. every third Saturday along with its regular hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for food distribution. *Hope House Weekly Food Pantry distributes food at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Hope House volunteers pick up the food from the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina and the house typically has vegetables, fruits, salad packages and breads but sometimes does have meat, eggs, fruit juice and milk. *Music at Midday every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. in Centennial Plaza in front of the Wake Forest Town Hall continues through Sept. 28. Loos Change will entertain on Sept. 28.
*Wake Forest Dance Festival, the Triangle’s first outdoor dance festival, is planned for Sept. 30, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at E. Carroll Joyner Park on Harris Road. Free and family-friendly, the inaugural event will feature national and regional professional dancers, as well as local rising advanced performers.
*A Wake Forest Tree Stewards Workshop will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Wake Forest Town Hall on Brooks Street. Please see article in this issue about the workshop.
*The Tri-Creek Greenway Crawl will celebrate the opening of 3.7 miles of new trails in the Wake Forest greenway system on Saturday, Sept. 30, beginning at 1 p.m. at the trailhead near Foundation Drive next to Heritage High School on Forestville Road. The new sections are on the Smith, Sanford and Dunn Creek greenways.
*The 25th annual Golf Outing sponsored by the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce will tee off Monday, Oct. 2, at Hasentree Golf Club. The event is limited to 120 golfers. Call the chamber staff to reserve your foursome.
*National Night Out is Monday, Oct. 2, and the Wake Forest Police Department will host a Parking Lot Party from 5 to 7:30 p.m. that night in the parking lot of the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre with a DJ, food, prizes and displays by the fire department, the police department and Wake County EMS. *Coffee with a Cop on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Wake Forest Starbucks, 2815 Rogers Road will also celebrate National Coffee with a Cop Day. Drop by and get your caffeine while chatting with a cop.
*Tri-Area Ministry will host a Stop Hunger Feed Hope dinner and auction to raise money to purchase fresh produce for the 700 families who rely on the ministry’s food pantry. *The Wake Forest College Birthplace Society will hold its annual meeting Sunday, Oct. 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Wake Forest Historical Museum on North Main Street. Wake Forest resident and WFU alum Kathryn Quigg will speak about the book she wrote with Wake Forest native Garland “Pete” Hendicks, To Any Soldier: A Novel of Vietnam Letters.
