Since its introduction in 2008 the downtown bus stop and park and ride lot for the Wake Forest loop bus and the Wake Forest-Raleigh express bus has been on South White Street in the first block south of Elm Avenue. Now progress is forcing its relocation.
The bus stop and the park and ride lot are moving to the parking lot on Elm Avenue that once served SunTrust Bank, which has relocated to the Harris Crossing shopping center at Capital Boulevard and Harris Road.
The bus shelter has been moved to the new temporary location but the official relocation of the bus stop and the park and ride lot will not happen until Monday, Aug. 6. A permanent home for the parking lot and bus stop will be announced later this summer.
Transit service officially began in Wake Forest in July 2008, giving residents the opportunity to ride a weekday rush-hour express from Wake Forest to downtown Raleigh and use a local circulator service that provides access to local grocery stores, shopping and other services.
The result of a partnership between the Town of Wake Forest, GoTriangle, GoRaleigh and the City of Raleigh, both the express and the local circulator routes are operated using GoRaleigh vehicles.
The Wake Forest-Raleigh Express serves the park and ride lot in downtown Wake Forest, the Triangle Town Center Park-and-Ride at Orvis, and the Moore Square Transit Station during morning and afternoon peak hours.
The Wake Forest-Raleigh Express fare is $3 each way for adults. Daily passes are available at the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 Brooks St. Daily and discounted 31-day express passes are available at GoTriangle Regional Transit Center, 901 Slater Road, Durham. Passes may also be purchased online at www.GoTriangle.org<http://www.gotriangle.org/>.
The Wake Forest Loop is a fare free, local circulator for residents wanting to travel within Wake Forest and a portion of the Wakefield community. The loop also serves the park and ride lot for those riders wanting to connect with the Wake Forest-Raleigh Express during peak hours and with Triangle Town Center in midday.

The decision by this Town Board to buy that building will go down as the worst and most inappropriate decision ever made by that body.
Let me make sure I have this right—-(and anyone out there PLEASE correct me if I’m misunderstanding):
My town paid 1.5 million for a downtown property (and to keep it from becoming a blood donor bank.). My town is now going to set it up as the bus station?
I’ve got some concerns about paying 1.5 million for a bus stop—and for a bus that serves very few folks—and in the heart of the downtown and the Renaissance Plan. Again, please let me know what I’m missing??
Jeez.
The former SunTrust building will serve as a temporary location until a permanent home for the parking lot and bus stop is announced later this summer.
I’m now wondering why, when the Powerhouse Row project has been on tap for a long time, there haven’t been plans already made regarding the bus stop relocation?
