The contractor developing the Preserve at Kitchin Farms subdivision will begin closing a single lane in a part of Burlington Mills Road east of One World Way in August, and then in mid- to late-August will close the road entirely for about two months.
The closures will allow crews to widen the road. The official start and end dates will be announced soon, but the work is scheduled to be complete by late October. Gaines and Company is the contractor.
Electronic message boards announcing the road closure will be in place in early August. Once the road is closed, a signed detour will be in place to direct traffic around the work area.
Although this is not a public project, the Town of Wake Forest has received several inquiries from area residents with concerns about the project. Officials are urging area drivers that travel through the area to plan ahead and allow extra time.
For more information about this road project, contact Town Engineer Eric Keravuori at 919-435-9441 or ekeravuori@wakeforestnc.gov or call the NCDOT District Office at 919-733-3213.

This is unacceptable. This will be a hindrance to emergency services. The should be required to keep a lane open at all times. They can build temporary roads to accommodate traffic. Who is on the planning board that said this should be done. Are our commissioners not concerned that someone may need emergency services and it will cause them to be delayed due detours. What if the house burns down or someone dies because services are not received in a timely manner.
Such as always, the State of North Carolina and Town of Wake Forest has it’s finger up it’s @$$ with NO regard to people. The only thing that matters to them is how can the get tax money from you and deliver fewer services? Why does a contractor has the authority to interrupt traffic flow, disrupt peoples lives and close a major thoroughfare for two months in order to build more homes in an that is already impacted to it’s max? How many more homes do they need on top of the 30-plus subdivisions that already exist and are crowding the roadways off Burlington Mills Road. Those graves have been in place since those settlers died and now the state, town and a private developer wants to move them to build a house…! Three letters…WFT!! When will GREED subside to common sense and respect…in the 2017 century is never will. I hope that when they died someone moves their grave and build a Strip Mall on top of them….
Utter incompetence for our elected officials to allow this developer to totally clear the development of all trees, to remove graves from their original resting place and now to close the road partially and later completely! A travesty to the residents of multitude developments!
I agree Shirley!!
Enough is enough!!
We will never be able to sell our houses!
Yet, the plan to extend Burlington Mills is years off!!
