Buckshot Becky starts Six Sundays in Spring April 28

Country, blues, salsa, jazz. A wide variety of music will be offered in the 2019 Six Sundays in Spring concert series in the amphitheater at E. Carroll Joyner Park on Harris Road. The outdoor concerts last from 5 to 7 p.m. every Sunday afternoon beginning on April 28 and ending on June 2.

The opening band is Buckshot Betty, four musicians who blend traditional country music with elements of low-rent bluegrass, Cajun, southern rock, blues, and the occasional side trip into Bakersfield. From John Hurt to John Fogerty, Buck Owens to Jason Isbell, and Hank Sr. to the Jayhawks, if it’s been played on southeast U.S. radio in the past seventy years, you’ll hear it in Buckshot Betty’s music.

In addition to Buckshot Betty, other acts scheduled to perform during this year’s concert series include Southern Culture on The Skids on May 5; The Magnificent’s Band on May 12; Orquesta GarDel on May 19; Tyson Brothers Band and Mister Felix on May 26; and the Marcus Anderson Band on June 2.

A new amphitheater cover, now under construction, should be completed in time for the April 28 concert. Designed to blend in with current Joyner Park structures and the natural habitat, the shelter will provide full stage coverage offering performers both shade from the sun and protection from the rain.

A variety of food and dessert trucks will be on site for each Six Sundays in Spring concert.

Concert goers are also invited to bring a picnic from home but are reminded alcoholic beverages and gas and charcoal grills are not allowed. Two large charcoal grills are provided on site. Unleashed pets are also prohibited.
