Brief Bits

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department has sent out a teaser, announcing that there will be a special announcement on Friday, May 30 at 3 p.m. “that is sure to ‘color’ your impression of parks and recreation.”

You can find it on the town’s Facebook page.

Hmm! It is not, surely, that they are adding anything. After all, Director Ruben Wall just added cultural resources – the Renaissance Centre and its staff and programming. Surely that is enough on the plate.

The department already manages 561 acres of parks, open space, natural land and trails that include eight lighted tennis courts, Flaherty Dog Park, the Wake Forest Community House, the Flaherty Park Community Center, Holding Park Pool and more than 50 miles of developed and undeveloped greenway trails.

You cannot overlook all the programs – the ball games for adults and children all year long, the special programs, everything from art to dance to music and story-telling.

We will just have to wait until May 30 to find out.

There is another tract of land in Heritage that is being clearcut and bulldozed, and once again owner Andy Ammons says it is for a fruit stand. Make that a flower and fruit stand.

A couple weeks ago he had the same explanation for the 4.6 acres in the southeast corner where Rogers Road meets Heritage Branch Road.

This week it is for 4.5 acres in three lots owned by Franklin Village, one of his companies, that lie on the north side of Rogers where it meets South Main Street. This time a large hill is being cut down.

The grading permit was for “seasonal sales” on the property. Ammons also said some of the clearing has been to clean up and clean out some areas and discourage possible loitering.

The planning department’s Technical Review Committee met on April 17 and reviewed the following plans:

Twenty-one PAC wants to construct a U-Haul, self-storage, warehouse and equipment rental on 35 acres at 9701 Capital Boulevard. The zoning is conditional use highway business.

210 S. Main Street LLC is asking to build an addition at that site on the 1.73 acres. The zoning is highway business.

Bowling Green Associates wants to move forward with phase four for the subdivision, 3.77 acres for single-family homes.

Orleans Homebuilders also are moving forward for phase three of the Reynolds Mill subdivision with 67 single-family lots on 12.84 acres along the future Ligon Mill Road and Reynolds Mill Drive.
