The Raleigh/Wake Partnership to End and Prevent Homelessness is preparing for its annual Point In Time Count which will take place Saturday, Jan. 25. Volunteers will be counting the homeless and providing them with care packages which include nonperishable food items along with hats, gloves, hand warmers and hygiene supplies.
Unfortunately, there is still a shortage of hats, gloves, hand warmers and hygiene supplies. Remember there are many children and women among our homeless in Wake County and homeless people in Wake Forest.
If you can donate any of these items, please take them to Emoke Anderson by Friday, Jan. 18, at the Northern Regional Center on East Holding Avenue. Reach her at 919-562-6384 or Emoke.anderson@wakegov.com.
If you prefer to make a monetary donation, please send your checks to:

The Wake Forest Fire Department will conduct a controlled burn exercise at 1009 Forestville Road on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Site set up will begin at 7 a.m. The location is the former home of Margaret and Emmett Marshall.
No lane closures will be in effect, but motorists are encouraged to proceed through the area with caution or take an alternate route.
The fire department attempts to conduct controlled burns in a manner that minimizes smoke impact to nearby roadways and neighborhoods. However, heavy amounts of smoke and ash are expected. Residents and businesses adjacent to the area are encouraged to keep windows closed during the burn.
For more information, call the Wake Forest Fire Department at 919-556-1966.

The Wake Forest Town Board will ask for public comments about the 2020 revisions to the five-year Capital Improvements Plan during its meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The commissioners will also recognize the Wake Forest High School soccer team which won the state championship this fall along with four men who are retiring from service with the town: Thomas LaBarge, who has headed the IT department; Jimmy Thrift, who worked for the town for over 16 years and is retiring from the parks, recreation and cultural resources department; Wake Forest Police Captain Darren Abbacchi; and Wake Forest Police Sergeant Richard Brown.
Aside from the usual consent agenda, the only other actions will be to appoint the commissioners to act as liaisons with the town’s advisory boards and to appoint a mayor pro tem.
