Brief Bits

Quick news! Heather Loftin will announce tomorrow afternoon, April 4, that she will be a candidate for the Wake Forest Town Board. The Gazette will have more about her candidacy next week.

There will be three seats up for election this year that are held by Commissioners Greg Harrington, Brian Pate and Anne Reeve.

In February the Gazette reported that Pate said, “At this time, I do not intend to seek re-election to the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners.”

Harrington answered with a series of ????s, and Reeve said, “I have the question under consideration.”

Reeve was first elected in 2007; Harrington was first elected in 2011; and Pate is ending his first term.

The filing period begins at noon on Friday, July 5, and ends at noon two weeks later on Friday, July 19. Candidates for the town board must be town residents, 21 years of age and qualified voters. The candidates with the largest number of votes are elected.

Wake Forest holds nonpartisan staggered elections for its mayor and commissioners. Mayor Vivian Jones was elected to a fifth term in 2017 and Commissioners Liz Simpers and Bridget Wall-Lennon were elected to their first terms in that same year.

The mayor’s salary is $10,000 and commissioners are paid $8,000.

  1. Great. Someone else who will say yes to everything that comes before the council. Growth for the sake of growth without explaining how it will improve quality of life. Yawn.

    1. Hi Stephen. It’s Heather. Thank you for being interested in how the town conducts growth. I want to hear more! Over the next few months, I’m asking for town citizens to talk to me about their concerns, as well as the things that they love, about Wake Forest. Please contact me so we can sit down and chat.
