Bowl-a-Thon set for Sunday, Aug. 3

The Wake Forest Woman’s Club, a non-profit organization of community service volunteers, hosts the second annual Charity Bowl-A-Thon at Brooks Street Bowl,413 S. Brooks Street, Wake Forest, on Sunday, August 3, 2014.

Sponsors for this event will be recognized with their company’s name and logo on banners placed above the lanes. Anyone who donates a door prize will be named when the lucky bowler’s name is drawn for the prize.

Captains for teams of four may sign up with a team name and pay the team fee online: http://www.bowlathon.net/event/WFWC2014. People of all ages and with a variety of bowling talents are encouraged to put together a team and join in on the fun. The event is for everyone, including families, friends, and co-workers.

Team captains will register the team’s name and the four bowlers’ names, pay the $100 team fee, and choose either the 1:30 to 3 p.m. session or the 3:30 to 5 p.m. session for bowling. Teams will bowl two games, and there will be chances to win trophies and prizes. Rental of bowling shoes and ball are included, and each bowler will receive one free soft drink and one free game pass for another day. Bring extra cash to buy snacks and raffle tickets for prizes. Tickets for a 50/50 “split the money” raffle will be sold from start to finish, and the winner will be contacted by phone.

The two teams with the highest pin-total scores will win a team trophy.  The prize for the top-scoring team will be $200 cash.  The team that raises the most online donations from sponsors will receive a prize.  Anyone may sponsor one lane, the event, individual bowlers, or a team by making tax-deductible online donations at http://www.bowlathon.net/event/WFWC2014.

Between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2013, members of the Wake Forest Woman’s Club completed 80 charitable projects and programs and contributed 1,666 volunteer hours “to make a difference in other peoples’ lives.” Recent projects include showcasing photography, art, and musical talents of local children, youth, and adults; awarding a Continuing Education Scholarship and a dorm shower to a high school senior; providing thank-you baskets and gifts to local first responders, supplying personally-selected gifts for Secret Santa at the Murdoch Center in Butner; providing tuition, clothing, and school supplies for a young girl to attend school in Haiti; providing buddy shirts for Dream League Baseball; organizing craft activities for children during the Lighting of Wake Forest in December, Meet in the Street in May, and Art in the Park on July 4; purchasing layette sets for distribution by the Northern Regional Center; donating soaps and other toiletries to Franklin County’s Safe Space; tutoring reading in two elementary schools; placing children’s books in two coin-operated laundries, and providing tote snacks for the local library’s summer story-hour programs.
