A young Wake Forest woman was one of the nine winners of the 2018 BBB Torch Scholarships which were awarded at a ceremony at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary on April 19. The scholarships recognize students who personify high ethics as demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity and academic history.
The winners, their scholarships and the schools they plan to attend or are attending are:

Sergio Osnaya-Prieto, Wake Tech Community College, Raleigh, NC
BBB Torch Scholarship entries were evaluated by an independent panel of judges comprised of volunteer business and community leaders in eastern North Carolina. A record number of entries were received this year from both high school students and college undergraduates in BBB’s 33-county service area.
Applicants were evaluated primarily on an essay involving lessons learned from a mistake made. Other components that were looked at include their involvement in the community, leadership and academic achievement.
